Why intuitive eating might not work for you....
CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: listening to your body does not mean eating all the things.
We are lying to ourselves when we eat a piece of pie and say it’s us listening to our bodies. (Stay with me here- this is actually good news and nothing is wrong with you!)
First of all, we can’t actually HEAR our bodies if our hunger hormones are unbalanced.
And in almost all cases they are. (Also good news - balancing them is really not that hard at all!!)
What you’re listening to is your slightly outdated primitive brain. (Again nothing is wrong with you or your brain)
Your brain is telling you to eat the pie.
Your primitive brain thinks that food is scarce.
Your brain thinks it’s job is to eat as much food as often as possible.
Your brain’s job is to seek pleasure and avoid pain.
Your brain’s job is to eat alllllllll the pie!
Eat the pie if you want to eat the pie!!! Enjoy the pie!!! Have fun with the pie!!!
But don’t lie to yourself and tell yourself your body needs it. No human body needs pie.
Pie is not bad or wrong. Pie just is. I’m not against pie.
For me, knowing this is so empowering.
